He had a rather impressive black eye

After our amazing Disney vacation we were then spending some time at Jackie's Florida house in Fort Myers. We were meant to be in Fort Myers for 5 days but it actually turned into 9 days as the day we were due to fly home, there was a big snow storm in Connecticut and so our flight home was delayed and rescheduled!!

Most of our time in Fort Myers was spent relaxing in the sun, by the pool or on the beach. The weather was very nice! One of the days we went to Captiva Beach on Sanibel Island and it was such a nice day and we went swimming in the sea, searching for seashells, playing in the sand and relaxing. On 2 seperate occasions we saw wild dolphin swimming in the ocean and also we saw plenty of pelicans catching fish. When we went shell hunting we found some really nice shells but they still had the sea-snail sort of creature inside. Jackie bagged them up and took them home and boiled them so she could remove the snails and keep the lovely shells!!! The day at the beach was brilliant!

One night Jackie made her famous, my favourite, English toffee pie… YUM YUM YUM! One day we went to the outlets to go shopping (I bought soooooo much stuff) and another day we went to a local park and went on a motorboat around a lagoon. I was on a boat with Cameron and it was really fun but we didn’t see any alligators which Gwen was hoping we would. One day Jackie took us to this river which is known for having lots of wild manatees inside and we did see lots of big manatees floating around. Jackie also took us to this deli for lunch where they have unlimited, free ice-cream for dessert. We ALL ate SO MUCH ice-cream. And it was very good ice-cream too!

One of the best days and most amazing things was when we did an Everglades alligator boat ride. It was so cool. Avery absolutely loved it and didn’t lose focus or enthusiasm for a single second! Every time she saw a bird she was pointing it out to me and looked so excited and happy! The kids all had to wear life jackets and every person had to wear ear defenders because the boats motor was so loud and the kids didn’t mind at all (apart from Beverly didn’t like the ear defenders, but they were an adult size on her tiny head so…) it was so good. Cameron got a big booboo across his face during the boat ride because he stood up, and the boat went forward at the same time and he hit his face on the front ledge of the boat. He had a rather impressive black eye! We saw some big alligators relaxing outside the water and also a few right next to us inside the water! We actually ran over one on the boat and it swam away so it was right up close!! We also saw LOADS of baby alligators that were so tiny and cute! It was an hour long and it was seriously so good, I would 100% do it again.

Fort Myers was another great vacation. The sun, relaxation, lots of fun and lots of food!!

What a great time we all had! The flight home was fine, the kids were well behaved and we landed to fresh snow falling out of the sky – which made the landing a bit sketchy – but it was fine.

A fantastic vacation but also, it was nice to be home!
