I have had one of the best weekends EVER!!
Me and Erika decided to take a weekend away as its Presidents' Weekend (so its a 5 day weekend) and it was supposed to be nice weather. We decided to go to Niagara Falls and stay 20 minutes away in Buffalo, NY.
We set off around 11am on Friday and had so much fun on the journey down, even though it was very long and took around 9 hours including stops. We stopped a couple of times for gas and coffee, and also stopped at Burger King for dinner... OOPS! We saw a circle rainbow and also one of the most beautiful sunsets I have EVER seen. So pink and red. We literally didn't stop talking and singing to songs the entire way down. It was sooo nice - we found out so much about each other and we discovered that we are literally the same person and have exactly the same thoughts. Every time I said something, Erika would be thinking the same. It was crazy but amazing and I feel closer to her than ever! ...Anyway, so after we travelled down we made a quick trip to the store (I needed heels and Erika needed foundation) and we got ready to go out! We went to a local bar (10 minutes walk away) called Sidebar. We made lots of friends and one of the barman was called Victor and he was such a babe! He was 40 and so nice and every drink we bought, he gave us the next one for free, so we didn't end up spending much money at all - bonus! We met this one guy who was literally so happy and enthusiastic and over the top about everything. He laughed so hard and loud at everything that we said and it was just awkward and annoying! In the toilet of the bar, everyone has scratched their names into the main door so we scratched our name into the door with a coin (pretty ineffective) but we left our mark!! By the time we were looking to leave it was 5am!! We walked home and went straight to bed (after reading some Shakespeare) at 6am!
We both woke up at 9am the next morning. Our air b&b host bought us up some homemade banana and chocolate chip pancakes! (She lives in the house below and we rented the house on top.) We then went to starbucks, got given a free large vanilla latte, and then drove to Niagara Falls. It was a warm and sunny day but when we got closer to the falls the wind picked up and it was VERY windy. We went up onto this platform that hangs over the Niagara river and so you can see the waterfall better. We took loads of photos and videos and had a lot of fun. Most of the photos we took, you can just see hair, not our faces because of the wind, haha! I have seen Niagara Falls from the Canadian side and it is definitely nicer from that side and you can see more of the 'horseshoe falls' from the Canadian side but it still looked lovely from the American side. After this we went to a couple of the gift shops and then went to the Rainforest Café for lunch. It was so cool inside. All the life-size animals that make noise and move... it was very cool. We both had a chicken ceasar salad and it was delicious, the nicest ceasar salad I have ever had for sure. We had the most infuriating waiter who came over literally every 2 minutes and interrupting us to tell us something pointless... After we ate we were both so tired so we decided to go back to the apartment. (Insert private joke regarding the man in the parking lot who was scared to see a car). We saw another lovely sunset on the way back. When we got back we had a quick nap and then got ready to go out again. We went back to the same bar and this time the SAME bouncer was so rude and sarcastic towards us and refused us entry because he thought that both of our ID's were fake. After kicking up a bit of a fuss he let us in. Again, Victor gave us most of our drinks for free and we saw 2 guys we had made friends with the day before and chatted to them and had a laugh so we had a lot of fun. We didn't stay out as late as I knew I had a lot of driving the next day so at 2am we walked back to the apartment (and got some boneless buffalo chicken wings on the way) and went straight to sleep.
On Sunday we woke up and went to speak to our air b&b host to thank her. We found out that Linda was originally in the USA as an au pair 10 years ago! She fell in love with her (now) husband and stayed to be with him and they now have 2 young children - and she was an au pair with Cultural Care which is our agency! It really is such a small world!! So we set off home around 11am. We drove around Buffalo for a little bit before we left. Then we were straight on the road! It was such a sunny, warm, lovely day! Again, on the way home, we just talked and talked and talked. It was SO nice to have such good company! At one point on our drive home, this car full of people our age drove past us and all started waving and laughing and it turned into a little joke/game. Then when they turned off the highway we all waved emotionally at each other like we had known each other a lifetime, haha! We stopped for about 4 coffees on the way home and we were home by 7pm - which was good! (Yay, I made it home in time for The Walking Dead!)
I had such a fun, happy, memorable, amazing weekend away! I haven't laughed so much in a long time - really! And me and Erika have become even closer over this weekend which is great!
So, so, so happy!
