I am home

Today is the day!

Connecticut here I come!

My host family will consist of Mom and Dad, Gwen and Keith, 4 year old Cameron, 2 year old Avery and soon-to-be 1 year old Beverly. Also not forgetting 7 year old King Charles Jojo.

Excitement is literally pumping through my veins. My friends Vanida, Cheyenne, Sabrina and Isabel take me to the train station and I am very grateful for this. My train, the 164, pulls into the station and it’s a stressful few moments getting me and all my luggage onto the train. With help from the other passengers, all my bags get put into the overhead compartments and I am ready for my 5 hour train journey to happiness - my fresh start.

I am nearing Stamford station, my destination and butterflies are beginning to fly around in my stomach. Gwen texts me a photo of Cameron leaning out of the car window trying to find me and says they are excitedly awaiting my arrival.

I get off the train (after a slight panic as the train begins to pull away out of the station before me and another group of people have time to get off, but then the conductor sees us and luckily re-stops the train!) and struggle with my 2 suitcases and 2 carry-on bags up a flight of stairs and back down the other side. It’s the end of November but the sun is shining and the sun is warm, and I am feeling very hot in my new winter coat. My arms are burning from carrying my 70lbs of luggage. I walk out of the train station, briefly look around, and I see Gwen and Cameron’s smiling faces waving at me.

I am home.
